In search for phase transitions in Casimir force between percolating metal lattices

چکیده
We provide a derivation of the percolation threshold for a two-dimensional triangular lattice. We then proceed to model an ensemble of skewed square lattices with randomly punched out squares, which is topologically equivalent to triangular lattice percolation. We investigate the behavior of the magnitude of the Casimir force between the percolating plate and the solid plate. We find evidence which suggests that connectivity of the percolating plate has an effect on the long wavelength current excitations on the surface of the conductors and consequently on the magnitude of the Casimir force.

Casimir force phase transitions in the graphene family
The Casimir force is a universal interaction induced by electromagnetic quantum fluctuations between any types of objects. The expansion of the graphene family by adding silicene, germanene and stanene (2D allotropes of Si, Ge, and Sn), lends itself as a platform to probe Dirac-like physics in honeycomb staggered systems in such a ubiquitous interaction. We discover Casimir force phase transiti...
متن کاملNUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CASIMIR EFFECT DUE TO A SCALAR FIELD
In this paper, we study the Casimir effect of a scalar field with Dirichlet boundary condition in some certain topologies. By numerical analysis we show that Casimir energy is a shape-dependent quantity. We also obtain the phase transition in different topologies in which the Casimir force changes from attractive to repulsive or vice versa. eararqr
متن کاملNew approach to the thermal Casimir force between real metals
The new approach to the theoretical description of the thermal Casimir force between real metals is presented. It uses the plasma-like dielectric permittivity that takes into account the interband transitions of core electrons. This permittivity precisely satisfies the Kramers-Kronig relations. The respective Casimir entropy is positive and vanishes at zero temperature in accordance with the Ne...
متن کاملSe p 20 08 epl draft Effects of phase transitions in devices actuated by the electro - magnetic vacuum force
We study the influence of the electromagnetic vacuum force on the behaviour of a model device based on materials, like germanium tellurides, that undergo fast and reversible metalinsulator transitions on passing from the crystalline to the amorphous phase. The calculations are performed at finite temperature and fully accounting for the behaviour of the material dielectric functions. The result...
متن کاملDynamic and Static Pull-in instability of electrostatically actuated nano/micro membranes under the effects of Casimir force and squeezed film damping
In the current study, the effects of Casimir force and squeeze film damping on pull-in instability and dynamic behavior of electrostatically actuated nano and micro electromechanical systems are investigated separately. Linear elastic membrane theory is used to model the static and dynamic behavior of the system for strip, annular and disk geometries. Squeeze film damping is modeled using nonli...
